Hayley is an Auckland-based dancer, actor, teacher and youth worker. She has studied dance in NZ, Los Angeles, San Diego, Singapore, Australia, New York and dances professionally with Street Candee Dance Company. She also acts regularly on ‘Only in Aotearoa’ on Maori TV. After mentoring at Atawhai, Hayley saw and felt the positive impact mindfulness and yoga has on rangatahi's outlook on life. Through her experience with The Kindness Institute, she practices yoga and meditation regularly to improve her mental clarity and help with the pressures of everyday life.
Dominic Hoey has been a youth mentor and practicing yoag and meditation for over 5 years. Dominic is a poet, author, and musician. He has released five critically acclaimed studio albums, two books of poetry, four short films, a one man show and a best-selling novel. In a former life, he was an MC battle- and slam-poetry champion. He’s performed his spoken-word poetry in Australia, Europe, England, Japan, and America. Meditation and yoga are important in Dominic’s life and he is passionate about sharing these tools to support positive mental health.
Norma Hernandez - Byron Katie Facilitator
Norma is passionate about supporting people to find clarity, peace and understanding in challenging situations. She is facilitator of “The Work of Byron Katie”, a powerful process of self-inquiry. She has been honoured to support many adults, children and teenagers on their healing and transformative journeys. She was part of the movie “Maui´s Hook”, and her role was to help families who have lost someone to suicide to find peace. She has degrees and professional experience as a Nutritionist and Educator. She loves being part of The Kindness Institute, she thinks there´s nothing more rewarding than supporting rangatahi in finding meaningful, joyful and peaceful lives.
Max is a writer and director of TV drama and feature films, including 'Shortland Street', 'Step Dave', and his debut feature film, 'Everything We Loved'. He plays rugby for NZ’s gay-and-inclusive team, the NZ Falcons and practices yoga and mindfulness. After mentoring youth as part of the Kindness Institute’s Atawhai pilot program, Max saw first-hand how teaching Mindfulness and meditation techniques to our teenagers helps them deal with stress.
