The Kindness Institute is seeking two dedicated and values-driven people to join its Board of Trustees.

This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute at a governance level, helping to shape the strategic direction of TKI and to support our mission to create equity in wellbeing through our mahi (work) that is financially accessible, is grounded in te ao Māori and focuses on extensive, long-lasting change within the communities we serve.

About the role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi:

The role of the Board of Trustees is governance and includes the setting and monitoring of strategic direction and the establishment of Board-level policies. The Board also works in close partnership with the General Manager | Kaiwhakahaere Matua to ensure objectives and goals are achieved through supporting and resourcing them to carry out their function.  However, matters of operational management and programme delivery are the responsibility of the General Manager | Kaiwhakahaere Matua. 

About You | He Kōrero Mōu

We are looking for two additional board members to take on the finance portfolio and the Pou Māori portfolio.

All Board members will be passionate about kaupapa Māori, hauora and mindfulness and bring some of the following attributes, knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding of kaupapa Māori values, with a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working effectively with Māori and diverse communities

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including iwi, youth organisations, and government agencies.

  • Understanding of financial management practices and fiduciary responsibilities 

  • Understanding of the issues facing non-governmental organizations 

  • Ability to provide strategic direction to the organisation 

  • Ability to provide senior management with direction on seeking new opportunities or business development 

For the Trustee (finance portfolio) we are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management who can interpret financial reports and communicate them to a non-financial audience. 

For the Trustee (Pou Māori portfolio) we are looking for someone with deep knowledge and understanding of te reo Māori, tikanga and Kaupapa Māori frameworks to help guide our organisational development, as well as our programme design and delivery.

There is an honorarium ($1000 per year) offered in recognition of your contribution. Trustees are also entitled to reasonable expenses incurred with travel to and from Board meetings.

Monthly board meetings are held in Avondale, Auckland and online for 2-3 hours. Trustees are also expected to attend one of our community events per year and contribute periodically to strategic planning and board sub-committees.
